I want to start by thanking all of you who took the time to enter the contest! We had 15 entries that met the requirements and made this an outstanding success! It also made for an extremely close competition, with several great submissions to choose from. In the end it came down to just one though. Before I say who that is though, let me explain how the voting worked.
All of the entires were emailed directly to me and not looked at until after the deadline was reached last Friday. At that point, each entry was placed in a Word document w/all references to its author removed, then zipped up and mailed to the remaining admins, who scored each entry in five categories on a scale of 1-5. Over the weekend, I did my best to forget which submission belonged to whom (which is getting pretty easy to do at my age) and then went at them with a fresh perspective this afternoon.
Each admins top 5 rankings were then taken and given points from 5 (for 1st) to 1 (for 5th). These points were all added together and the best final score became the second X-CAV.
The voting was extremely close, with the winner and runner-up only being seperated by a single vote. They each actually scored 2 1st place rankings by the admins!
So, without further blathering by me, I'm proud to announce the winning entry of the X-CAV 2 contest:
The Corvus
by Jeremy Barnhill
Scroll down to read Jeremy's entry!
Jeremy's design will be featured in the CAV 2 rulebook, he'll recieve 6 copies of the mini and a rulebook from Reaper Miniatures and a sheet of decals from Fighting Pirannha Graphics.
Our runner-up was the Ranger by Yaldabaoth! It actually has the exact same weapons load as the Corvus and was incredibly well written as well! Congratulations!
Yaldobaoth will be winning a free copy of the CAV 2 rulebook and 2 Corvus models when they're all released!
Random prizes were then awarded by the age old method of drawing names out of a hat. The winners were:
Free CAV 2 Rulebook - asm2750
Free Corvus Minis - Chaos, DChiHorn, Dethstryker, dlent, Saint of Sinners and Erion
Free Decal Sheets - Sergei, Pigmented
All winners will be contacted by email tonight with instructions on what they need to do to recieve their prizes.
Thanks again to all of you who entered!

Jeremy's X-CAV 2 Entry
Terran Market Designation: Corvus
Type: Combat Assault Vehicle
Class: Heavy
Mission: ESM/Recon
Weight: 80 Tons
Height: 25 Feet
Opening Sales Pitch:
Looking for a good heavy recon unit to replace those aging Challengers? Need a CAV that can operate for long periods of time behind enemy lines? Well look no further friends, I present to you, the CVX-001 Corvus. Designed as a heavy recon unit that can operate deep behind enemy lines and call in accurate fire support, this diverse and multifunctional Combat Assault Vehicle can fill multiple roles in any front line combat unit, or operate as a command vehicle for reconnaissance units that see extended time operating deep behind enemy lines.
This baby is as fast as the Challenger, as nimble as a Raptor, as rugged as any front line superiority CAV, and packs one hell of a punch with its dual Thunderstrike Particle Bolt Guns. Couple all that amazing performance with the new Watchdog computer and control suite, and this puppy can accurately call in support fire to anywhere it is needed at the drop of a hat. Yes sir, no frontline combat unit will be seen without at least one of these babies.
Development Notes:
The most vulnerable part of any army is its supply chain. This has been true since the beginning of warfare. The Corvus was designed to help reduce the amount of support needed for a frontline CAV. The reliance on energy based weapons, the two Thunderstrike Particle Bolt Guns that make up the Corvus’s primary armament, allows the Corvus to stay on station longer than most conventional CAV designs.
Knowing that the CAV was going to be out of supply and maintenance longer the designers came up with a very unique design for the new UA-36 repair system. This system actually recycles excess nano-foam via series of ducts and intakes that collects the excess foam and restores it into the repair system. This makes for a very rugged unit that can make repairs in the field longer than any other CAV.
During the construction phase of this project, a new computer system was designed that, in testing, was able to accurately store and track several hundred targets simultaneously. This system was designated Watchdog. It was decided that the Corvus would be the new test bed for the computer. This changed the Corvus’ combat role from a frontline superiority CAV, to a Heavy ESM/Recon CAV. With the new system installed in the Corvus, the computer simulations showed that the Corvus could be used to lead a deep penetration of recon units into the enemy’s rear and then accurately track their movements as well as call down extremely accurate support fire from mobile artillery batteries, or orbiting spacecraft.
Since the Corvus was designed for long periods of time out of supply it was decided that only the two Particle Bolt Guns would be installed as weapons. Several of the test pilots issued concerns that there wasn’t a suitable secondary weapon system capable of delivering the final blow to enemy units. Several different options were tried but ultimately the designers decided that a secondary Direct or Indirect fire Missle rack would cause un-needed ammo issues. Once the capabilities of the Watchdog were fully realized it’s installation into the Corvus helped to alleviate the concerns of the pilots about the secondary weapons issue. The Corvus could now accurately call in fire support, so it was never without a means to defend itself.
On the Testing Ground:
The Corvus is still a new design and has very limited combat experience to date. The Ritterlich military has recently purchased several of the designs. Its unique combat role fits in with the Ritterlichs’ doctrine of dropping small recon units onto planets weeks before an invasion to scout the enemy’s strength and position.
During simulated testing several sections were dropped on an enemy held planet with the mission to scout enemy positions and report back the strength of the enemy’s defenses. Both of these sections were led by a Corvus.
The insertions were detected and several CAV sections were sent to intercept and destroy the invaders. Expecting light recon CAV the enemy forces were unprepared for the big Corvus’. The enemy intercepting force was destroyed with the loss of only 2 invading Panthers. The remaining CAV went into a Guerilla mode and spent two weeks evading patrols and marking enemy positions. The rugged Corvus performed exemplary. When the transports arrived weeks later the Corvus radioed the positions of several military installations and missle defense silos. All the targets were destroyed from orbit, proving the effectiveness of the Watchdog system.
Armor: Galahad 3 Heavy
Breeder: Grail 4b
ECM System: SurBloc 9
Power Cell: H8-T
Repair System: UA-36
Target System: Watchdog Mk1
Weapons: 2 Arm mounted Thuderstrike Particle Bolt Guns

Congrats all!
So...who were the top five candidates? I think mil-net should do more of these more often... Especially if it means more free mini's. Unfortunately, this looks to be a Ritterlich design so it wont be usable in my Adonese Army...

Actually, I think the cockpit and torso are very reminiscent of the Hughes-Marietta Knight.
Oh, and Congrats Jeremy. I look forward to alternately fielding the Corvus or blasting it to atoms, depending on where it ends up.

We've run several different contests in the past and we'll run more in the future. The prizes are always different though. In fact, our next big contest is just around the corner... the prize won't be miniatures, but some people will say its better than those anyways!
We'll be announcing it later this week.

Spot on. Matt mentioned when we started this that H-M was very interested in the design.

Well I gotta say, if I'd known this was a Jeremy submission, I'd have taken a couple points away.
Just kidding, just kidding.
Seriously though, this was Waaaay tougher than the last X-CAV contest. My top five CAVs were seperated by a grand total of 4 points between the five! It was very tough. I want to take this time to thank everyone, not only for actually participating, but for putting some thought into their pieces. They were all excellent and made it much more fun to judge.
Congrats to the winners and a big thanks to Reaper and Fighting Pirannha Graphics for donating the awesome prize package.

Congratulations, Jeremy! I thought the PBGs looked a tad big for a light CAV like the one I envisioned... you figured out that it was actually a heavy chassis. Great job!

Thanks everyone for participating and for the congratulations.
Thanks Free Fall, you and Kai are right up there together!! LOL
Man I am sorry, no need to compare you to Kai, that waas just down right mean.

I'm not going to get into specific details, but the Bohemian was the only other entry to get votes from all 4 of us. Three of us voted for the Warlock, while the Yeoman and Crusader got 2 votes each. The Cossack, Ravager and Medusa each got one.
For those of you counting, yes that's more than the 20 votes that we had, due to a couple of ties for different admins' 5th place slots.

They are all in there if you look hard enough!
Yeah Blitz, I agree. All the weapons loadouts looked great, but there was something about those PBG's...

It kinda reminds me of a Rifleman from CBT, just shorter barrel length.
