Here's how they'll work:

There are 3 modes of detection: Contact, Preliminary ID and Positive ID.

Contact tells you where something is and whether its friend or foe. You will recieve Contacts for every model on the map.

Prelim ID tells you what type of vehicle the contact is, although some units can be mistaken for other unit types of similar size and characteristics (IE a small, CAV moving slowly mistaken as a large tank, an APC mistaken for a gunship, etc, etc). Prelim ID range is 2x model's longest weapon range.

Positive ID tells you exactly what make and model of vehicle you are detecting, plus detectible upgrades (ARM, ECCM/CL Pods, etc). Positive ID happens at longest weapon range + 15.

Once Prelim or Positive ID is made on an enemy model, it will not be lost, regardless of how far away on the map the target model moves.

Whichever weapon has the longest range, DF or IF. In the case of a Mastadon, it'd be which ever mode has the longest range.

Nothing. They have very powerful targetting computers, correct?

Whoops! I just realized that I left out the fun factor! ECM!

A unit's ECM value (using current DT) will negatively effect an opposing model's attempt to ID it. I had all of the numbers worked out at one point, but lost the piece of paper. I'll update this when I've reworked them.

How does this affect the double blind aspect? That is to say, will we be able to establish the contact and/or preliminary type ID's for units hidden behind terrain?

Yes. Computers don't rely on eyeballs to identify targets, so line of sight has no effect on them.

A question was posted about Whispers and Rippers and how the rules will effect them if their target moves out of their range. Since these two systems are especially fickle to initiative, we'll have special rules for using them.

On the turn they're launched
Their entire movement path must be submitted in the first stage. They will be moved 1/2 their MM in the first stage of the turn, and the remaining MM in the 2nd movement phase.

On the turn they attack
Instead of giving a location to move to, the missile's owner will designate a target model. If the target moves out of the missle's range, the missile will automatically target the next closest enemy model, based on target type (Whispers target Hard targets, Rippers Soft ones). If two targets are equal distance apart, the missile will go for the one that it stands the best chance of damaging (my choice).
