Announcement on the Awenasan Journal
Principal War Cheif Keith Grant (Acting 7th Division Commander- UTDF)

Do not be deluded. General Hiss is dead. He was cremated shortly after he was shot by several sniper teams. Our snipers do not miss their shot and do not make the mistake of thinking that the UTDF would take this situation lightly.

Now if the Leein wish for war, think about it; Is that wise of them? Perhaps they wish to test their mettle in the galaxy. Had we have been the Rach, the Leein would have already been eradicated. Or the Malvernians, the Leein would of been converted to their faith, by force if neccessary.

The AEC would have the Leein bogged down with economic dictates, reducing the Leein to nothing more than working class slaves. The Ritterlich would defenitely look down on them, as nothing more than a barbaric scourge, of which they would eliminate when they take their little planet.

Templars? perhaps your only saving grace but even they would understand the Leein were clearly wrong.

But Terrans......
perhaps, this is why Terra would rather have us make contact then a military party of the UFF. The Leein would've already been bombed back to the stone age. We have no expansionist visions, I REPEAT NO EXPANSIONIST VISIONS.

We only made contact as a gesture of good will. Our defense force made a routine threat assessment, of which, after some misunderstandings, all was going well, until the Leein choose to violate our sacred land.

We will accept the Frogs of War as mediators, but as of now, all UTDF divisions on Awenasa are on full alert. 2nd Zulu Army is already deployed and holding just inside our system. Upon orders, 2nd Zulu Army will move to the Leein homeworld and initiate a full campaign to eliminate the Leein threat; the choice of peace is in their hands, as well as the fiery alternative.

Things were quiet, Thorn thought. In fact they were too quiet. It was time for the pack to hunt again, only there was no obvious prey.

The situation with those lizards was just plain messy, and the AEC business was un manageable. Until something more tangible came up, it was time to sit and wait. It did not pay to enter the hunt too early.

"I am the Packmaster. You will heel to me or die!!!"

The corridor door opened to reveal a dimly lit board room, with several stuffy types already taking their seat. Principal War Chief Charles Cruz always hated these staff meetings; aside from the “hello, sir, hello Ma’am, I see your golf stroke has improved in the past month.”

Chief Cruz hated golf; didn’t care for it. He rather preferred good ole American football any day. The 2272 Philadelphia Eagles just defeated the Dorado Aztecs and had a chance for the Mega bowl this year. He was missing some good sit down, beer and pretzels time.

A lot of development projects came down from corporate, and the Lone Wolf Company staff was juggling a tight workload. The 7th Division command transition didn’t make things much easier with the new Principal War Chief Joseph McLemure changing up a lot of standard operating procedures. Lone Wolf Company itself had a lot of new fresh faces.

“Ok, let’s get started.” Alison K Ward motioned for everyone to take their seats.

“We have quite a few things to discuss so we’ll brief the small stuff.”

“We’ll start with a few new additions to the Lakota product line.” The room dimmed as Mrs. Ward targeted her laser pointer to the projection screen.

“Several concept models are being developed by research and development.”

“The Sinopa just returned from the revision board and is being outfitted with a nanotech slagger in replacement of its EMP technology. This opens up a few options but we’re yet to decide on a final concept” The image shifted to a different mecha chassis.

“The Apukeena has been refitted to accommodate its new combat role as ‘Flank Superiority’. We have another model which we will discuss in a moment to assume its sniper function, however R and D, have removed its charger IFM to give it a sturdier chassis.” Seeing the next image, triggered a few chuckles from the staff members

“The Petah project is a go. We begin concept testing within the week.”

“Ma’am, does this farting model come with a complimentary gas mask?” The room erupted into a chatter as Spear Chief Williams looked around to receive his admiration.

“At ease, people.” War Chief McLemure was starting to get on Chief Cruz’s nerve. This guy was obviously fresh off the trail and didn’t understand the interaction between mercenary types.

“All jokes aside, the Petah is a solid fire support design. Its payload is comparable to a Koda Works Conqueror, only several times lighter. It could be worse; we could be giving the OK on the Happy Apple."

"Right, on the next model.”

“Yes, people, it’s finally off the design board, the Notako. Some power problems put the schedule back a few months but all the specs say she’ll make one hell of a point superiority CAV.” She began pointing to a few features that just needed a nod of approval.

“So, Ma’am; how do you think this rates on the Colonel Frank Vickers drool meter?” asked Mr. Southerland.

Alison Ward raised an eyebrow in contemplation of an answer; she shrugged her shoulders then responded.

“3 and a half buckets based on technical data, but you can never tell what his eye will fancy.”
The room responded in a hullabaloo, which triggered the eminent “Ok, at ease, people” from War Chief McLemure.

“Last but least are the proof of concept models for the X1 Special Operations Cybot. This is a bold step in mecha technology; quite honestly, there are some who can’t get past the one dimensional battlefield concept concerning mecha in combat; but this model expands the flexibility of any operations force by being able to strike hard and fast, from anywhere, at anytime. A larger version of the model available dubbed the X2 is in the works.”

Kris Southerland motioned for Mrs. Ward’s attention being that she had switched the image to a few architectural projects being developed.

“We will have the basic structural data for the Mecha bay facility available once the architects make the revisions we suggested.”

“Excellent, then they will be able to stamp the rest of the Fort Wolf site development plans and we’ll get those to you ASAP. The troops are going to enjoy the new quarters; well, it’s certainly better than the Quonset huts they’re using now.”

“Hoah” responded Chief Williams.

“OK, onward to signal and software products. We are looking into replacing our current inventory tracking system AITS with a newer software package, which we will dub IPS for Inventory and Personel systems. We will link this software to our automated personnel rosters.”

We all remembered the Automated Inventory Tracking System “AITS” and how inadequate it had become over the past few years; we were still waiting for the 2272 JoR updates and our personnel was tracked by a separate system altogether.

“The new inventory software is being developed by a joint team of programmers from Cetus 4 and Kiatos Prime and will certainly revolutionize force management in the 23rd century. Not only is the standard technical data available but the battle field commander has the ability to assign his/her personnel from the same database."

"Our current personnel system will be relegated to administration and hopefully it could cross reference the new inventory software to give our admin guys an up to date status change of personnel and equipment.” The room erupted in applause

“Score one for the techno freaks, hoah!” Chief Williams remarked

“OK, OK, here we go. Lakota is field testing the Multi-Targeting expansion kit; this handy dandy device is a system upgrade to any TL system which would allow it to track two targets on the battlefield. It’s equipped like a pod, slaving the primary and secondary weapon joints with the parent Targeting system. This will allow the weapons officer to take over indirect fire operations while the pilot maintains control of the primary weapons control.”

“Now you know this breaks every convention of CAV design, right?” replied Kris Southerland

“Well, you know what they say, right?” Alison Ward responded
“Evolve or die.”

She motioned to War Chief McLemure who stood up to make his announcement.

“OK, we’ll take a short recess and Principal War Chief Cruz will discuss our current operations schedule.”

“Ok, everybody is back then,” asked Principal War Chief McLemure.

Principal War Chief Cruz, was ending his conversion with Spear Specialist Deborah Scott while Colonel Jake Mitchell was giving him the sign that everyone was ready for the briefing. Principal War Chief Keith Grant and Joseph McLemure sat in close proximity to exchange information while Spear Chief David Richardson (Cherokee Wolf) took a seat next to Colonel Afeni Watson (Zulu Spear)

Alison Ward (Senior Director), Spear Chief William Baker (Golf Spear), Principal War Chief Hugo Lopez JR (SOCOM Director) and War Chief Luis Savedra (Tango Spear) all took their seats in the boardroom. It was a chilly day at Fort Wolf; War Chief Cruz would’ve rather been at home watching highlights of the Eagles/Aztecs game.

“OK, first off, we’ll start with the small stuff. Let’s examine the situation with the Leein. We established formal contact with this race earlier last month, however some complications arose and Tango 1st Ranger Group was forced to deploy to evaluate the situation. They had lost contact with delegation team they were assigned to protect due to signal difficulties, possibly a solar flare or something, who knows.”

“The Rangers were able to provide us with some good Intel on them and their home world, though force organization may be sketchy at best. Regardless, our PSYOPS division was able to give us some solid information based on their social order and behavioral traits that could be exploited. TACOPS analyzed their communications chain and provided us with reports of large beastlike creatures that may be comparable in size to our mecha.”

“A basic synopsis of their way of thinking suggests a few means to stagger their combat capability should it come to that. First off, the Leein are highly confrontational; in their mindset, they assume they are the most physically dominating species and will be eager to prove themselves especially towards other species whom they view as inferior. This seemed to be the theme the Rangers encountered consistently, until the Rangers blew up some of their livestock with a grenade launcher”

“Way to go, Espanosa!” War Chief Savedra snickered! “I’ll talk to him when he gets back”

“No need, War Chief Savedra, it gave them a temporary reality check. However their little stunt last month proved nothing and cost them the life of their General Hiss. The Frogarum wants us to try to resolve this situation and are willing to play the mediator. We are going to play troublemaker here. First off, TACOPS wants a delegation from each government present, especially the Rach and Malvernians.”

“Are you sh*tting me, chief. That’s a powder keg waiting to happen” Remarked War Chief Lopez.

“Exactly, the typical Rach response to their chest beating would be a sock to the jaw, while the Malvernians will obviously feel sorry for these poor saps and try to convert them to the path of Khardullis. The Templar of course, being the Templar will want to intervene to stop the Rach from declaring an all out blood bath on the Leein.”

“Next up is to exploit the economic value of the Leein home world to the AEC so they have a reason to intervene. Leein are naturally carnivorous while placing little or no economic value on their agricultural market potential. Their world is mostly jungle….”

“This will look like a very profitable endeavor for the AEC who may want to reduce overall market costs by creating a food surplus and distributing it across RAM Coalition space. One could only reason this may be with direct competition from the Ritterlich Confederacy.”

“You’re telling me, the AEC will go on a blitz over the price of sugarcane and bananas?” asked Principal War Chief Mclemure.

“Historically, men have killed each other for much less, sir.” War Chief Cruz responded.

“The Leein have asked to make contact with the other races of this galaxy, and we’re going to give them just that.” War Chief Cruz looked over to Specialist Scott, who cued up the main display showing a tactical map of the Leein home world.

“Currently, Chief Espanosa and the Tango 1st Ranger Group are holding a position just outside of their star system. We did monitor some broadcasts from several mercenary organizations that may suggest that they may still be in the proximity, namely the Snow Tigers, Brawlers and some elements of the Lucky 8s. We’ll extend a few contract offers to them and see if we like our Leein shaken or stirred.”

“Chief Espanosa has already devised a series of strikes against their capitol that’ll definitely stagger them should we decide to initiate full combat operations. We still have 2nd Zulu Army on high alert, ready for the green light, but I’m guessing the Leein will have their hands full with just the Rangers. Fleet will continue to operate under full defensive protocols and shoot down anything that doesn’t register with IMO.” The display went blank and the board room was silent.

“Ok, we’ll take another recess and conclude this session with the Blood Apache situation.”

Principal War Chief Cruz stood by the main display as the senior officials filed in and took their seats. This had been a long day, but it was almost over. Ah, well, War Chief Cruz could catch highlights of that Eagles game on diskchip. Specialist Scott turned on the laptop and the image was displayed on the main viewer.

“Ok, everyone is back, sir, are you ready? Ok let’s continue.” War Chief Cruz took a sip of his bottled water.

“We’re pressuring the Montana government into revealing the whereabouts of Remi Santiago and Jose Soliz. Word is, they are at each others throat and the Wild Apaches are caught right in the middle of it. Reyes is a good soldier, so Prime Minister Felicia Salvadore may be able to pull some strings for him if he can prove the validity of his actions.”

“We’ve intercepted a sh*tload of bounced transmissions that may indicate Cassini is nearer than we may think, though we can’t isolate any of these transmissions. From what we can gather, Chief Reyes is giving the Disciples hell; he may actually be the best wildcard we have into neutralizing the Disciple menace. He’s not alone however, we believe Jack Burton is commanding a mercenary organization, the Lucky 8s and assisting the Wild Apaches against a full Division of hostiles.”

“He’s insane and this is an ill use of military resources.” Principal War Chief McLemure commented. “I will deal with him when he returns with a full court martial. Him and his whole unit, they’ll be lucky if they ever see daylight again once I got them in Echota Federal Prison."

“Sir, he’s obviously running a guerilla front against them, collectively with the Lucky 8s they may actually pull it off. His first incursion was to isolate all the maneuvering elements of this division. Once the enemy was staggered, Reyes and Burton were able to take out several key positions that would’ve posed problems for the N’dee Free Army mass deployment.”

“His strategy seems pretty sound to me. The NFA struck the Disciple division from three fronts, breaking most of their command and control structure in a swift stroke. The Disciple logistics capacity is unable to support a full mobilization, thus any threat of an invasion by the 1st Cassini Guard has been permanently crippled. He took matters into his own hands, I agree, but he saw the potential threat much clearer than we did.”

“STOP DEFENDING HIM, CRUZ! HE’S A CRIMINAL, GOD DAMN IT!”

“Mr, McLemure, MAY I remind you that Lone Wolf Company is a commercial security force, your presence here is a professional courtesy from my business to your respective organization.” Alison Ward intervened. “Prime Minister Salvadore is already aware of the situation, and will respond to the matter. Please continue War Chief Cruz”

Principal War Chief McLemure stormed out of the board room.

“We may have a few leads as to the whereabouts of Cassini, but we may end up exposing some of our covert units in the process. Ghost Squad was the first one to be exposed, we had to deactivate them because they were no longer a viable covert operation. We may be able to develop a logistics trail that may put us on course with Cassini.”

“But once we’re there, we’ll have to evaluate the situation and possible reinforce the Wild Apaches in their operations.”

“Lone Wolf Company back together again, huh?” commented War Chief Lopez. “Somebody’s ass is going to get kicked, hard. Real hard……”

It was a dark clear night in the wilderness, Teresea Avery could vaguely remember this place; it was a familiar place, but she could never recall being here before. There were a few shrubs at the foot of steep grade, dancing with their shadows against the brown rock. She paused to fix her hair from her face and saw the camp fire.

She could make out 3 men performing their rhythmic steps around this fire, on the legs they wore a band with small spherical shells which they used as a rattle. There was an older male sitting before the fire with a drum whose percussion was matched by the steps of the other men. Next to this man sat another man, quite possibly an elder but was covered by a cloak.

She did not know how, but she understood this was the ancient “Ghost Dance” of the Wavoka faith, once performed by Sitting Bull himself at Wounded Knee. This was something the Sioux believed would drive away the foreigners from their lands; instead they were met with bloodshed. Or were the followers of Wavoka actually right?

She suddenly understood the reason why the N’dee were so adamant of their beliefs; there was a strange beauty of this ceremony and it beckoned her closer. Traditions last as long as the people are willing to follow them, and as long as there are still Elders left to teach them. This was the core of the Blood Apache perspective, to maintain the great one tribal nation, known to many in the ancient Mayan tongue as Ah Me Ke Kia….. Amekekia….. America!

The dialect they spoke was ancient, known only to the Elders and Disciples of the N’dee but she understood the word meant “Our Land of Peace”. This was the great unification of all the tribal nations under one central government, which was interrupted by the arrival of the first Europeans.

It was in 2012 with the return of the “Bearded One” and his 24 Disciples; they were the ones who reorganized the Blood Apache nation, from the streets and prisons, from all walks of life into the great “One Tribe”.

She took the 7th stone around the fire as her seat and contemplated the depth of this revelation. No nation is ever truly conquered so as long as its people survive; they are either transformed or absorbed into that of their “conquerors” but the N’dee refused to be transformed or absorbed. They were who they were and they refused to conform to any standard but their own. It was their right as a people.

The cloaked elder held out his hand, motioning for Teresea to approach him.

Slowly she made her way to the elder and took his hand. Immediately she pulled her hand back when she felt the sensation of blood trickling down the elder’s palm.

It was Miguel Cordona…………….

Teresea awoke suddenly from her sleep, her sheets drenched in sweat. As she tried to catch her breath she reached for the illumination controls in her cabin. It was then she noticed the pendant that was given to her by Jared Bermudez.
